The Semperoper Dresden has announced a cast change for its performance of “Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte.” The company announced that ensemble member Joseph Dennis will sing the role of Tamino replacing Sebastian Kohlhepp, who had to cancel.
Dennis has performed numerous roles at the Semperoper Dresden including Belmonte in “Die Entführung aus dem Serail,” Tamino in “Die Zauberflöte,” Don Ottavio in “Don Giovanni,” Brighella in “Ariadne auf Naxos,” The Steuermann in “Der Fliegende Holländer,” Pylades in “Iphigenie aus Tauris,” Ferrando in “Cosi fan Tutte,” as well as Jacquino in “Fidelio.”
Dennis joins a cast that includes René Pape, Nikola Hillebrand, and Tuuli Takala.
Semperoper Dresden has announced its 2020-21 Season Joseph Dennis will be featured in several upcoming productions. The tenor will sing Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Lensky in Eugene Onegin, and Baron Kronthal in Lorzing's Der Wildschütz.
This upcoming season will include seven new productions, and headlining artists including Anja Harteros, Rene Pape & Rolando Villazón.
Tenor Joseph Dennis will sing in two Premiers, namely as Conte di Lerma in Don Carlo with Thielemann conducting, also starring Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov, as well as the role of Pylades in Iphigenia aus Tauride, conducted by Jonathan Darlington. He will also sing starring roles in several revivals such as Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Ferrando in Cosi fan Tutte, and Jacquino in Fidelio.
Tenor Joseph Dennis will sing the role of Tamino in Mozart's The Magic Flute, which will open Central City Opera's summer festival season. The production will also feature Jeni Houser, Kevin Langan, Katherine Manley, and Ashraf Sewailam. The Magic Flute opens on July 7th and runs through August 5th.
Joseph Dennis will sing the role of Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor with the Virginia Opera, as well as the tenor solo in Beethoven's ninth Symphony with the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra next weekend. "Lucia" is the last production of Virginia Opera's 2017-18 season. The Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra calls their soloists "...some of the most sought-after opera singers today."

The tenor will sing Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos, The Steuermann in Der Fliegende Holländer, as well as featured roles in Fidelio and Die Entführung aus dem Serail.

This season is sure to be an exciting one for Joseph filled with Role and House debuts.
The season starts with Joseph debuting the role of Alfredo in Memphis Opera’s production of La
Traviata. Laquita Mitchell sings Violetta and Michael Corvino sings Giorgio Germont. The opera will be
conducted by Douglas Kinney Frost and directed by Ben Smith and is performed at the Germantown
Performing Arts Center on October 13 & 14.
Next comes Joseph’s debut as the Duke of Mantua in Verdi’s famous opera Rigoletto. He will perform
this role at the North Carolina Opera in Raleigh North Carolina at the Memorial Auditorium. He sings
with another stunning cast including Malcolm MacKenzie as Rigoletto, Jacqueline Echols as Gilda, and Solomon
Howard as Sparafucile. Wexford Festival Opera Artistic Director David Agler will conduct. The show will be directed by Matthew Lata.
The third of Joseph’s exciting debuts comes with the Virginia Opera’s production of Lucia di
Lammermoor. Joseph will be singing the role of Edgardo in this dramatic bel canto masterpiece by Donizetti. The title
role of Lucia will be sung by Rachel Gilmore and the role of Enrico by Tim Mix. This piece will be
conducted by Ari Pelto and directed by Kyle Lang. The Virginia Opera performs in three different venues.
The first three performances will be on March 23, 25, 27 in Norfolk, the next two performances on April
7 and 8 in Fairfax, and the final two performances on April 13 and 15 in Richmond.
Following Virginia opera, Joseph will sing with the Warsaw Philharmonic the role of the Governor in a
concert version of Bernstein’s Candide. This will be performed in the beautiful Warsaw Concert Hall in
Finally, Joseph will end the season singing once again the role of Tamino in yet another house
debut. The opera, The Magic Flute, will be sung in beautiful Central City Colorado with a stellar cast including Jeni Houser as the Queen
of the Night, Will Liverman as Papageno, and Katherine Manley as Pamina. Performances are July 7, 11,
13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 25, 27, 29, 31 and August 2, and 5. All performances will be held at the Central City
