Tenor Joseph Dennis studied at The Juilliard School in New York and has been honored with numerous awards, including the top prize at the Gerda Lissner Foundation competition. After winning the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, he secured various engagements in the United States. Notably, he performed as Boris in "Katya Kabanova" at Seattle Opera, Des Grieux in the Emmy-winning production of "Manon," and Števa in "Jenůfa" at Des Moines Metro Opera and the Spoleto Festival in the world premiere of Huang Ruo's "Paradise Interrupted" (in the original language: Mandarin).
His career further unfolded with engagements as Alfredo in "La Traviata" at Memphis Opera, Duca in "Rigoletto" at North Carolina Opera, Edgardo in "Lucia di Lammermoor" at Virginia Opera, and Governor in "Candide" with the Warsaw Philharmonic. He also performed Tamino in "The Magic Flute" at Central City Opera.
Quickly gaining attention in Europe as well, he embarked on his career becoming immediately a member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera. There, he took on a variety of roles including Tamino, the Italian Singer in "Der Rosenkavalier," Nick in "La fanciulla del West," Jaquino in "Fidelio," Brighella in "Ariadne auf Naxos," and Hugo in Lortzing's "Undine." He also sang important roles such as Alfredo in "La traviata," the title role in "Werther," and embodied the role of Ernesto in "Don Pasquale."
